Tehelka yesterday leaked the SIT committee's 600 page report which the committee has just submitted to the Supreme Court in a sealed envelope. The report seems to be focused on Indicting Modi of being biased in favor of the Hindu rioters in Gujarat (which Muslims and extremist secularists are already convinced of) and therefore 'implying that Modi could have probably' facilitated riots. The report makes points such as:
The report finally goes on to say that the SIT committee was unable to find anything which proves that the CM of Gujarat was criminally culpable in facilitating the riots.
To my mind the possibility of that happening seems impossibly low because well, Mr Narrendra Modi already stands convicted of crimes as heinous in comparison as the genocide of Jews in Hitler's Germany many times over in the eyes of Many in the country especially the Ultras in the secularist camp but that has not stopped him or other members of the BJP winning elections on Gujarat repeatedly.
Yes the SIT report (which has been quite suspiciously leaked) tangentially manages to raise serious questions about the prejudice's of Modi but it does not say anything real new. To say that since
- Narrendra Modi visited Godhra to which he had to travel 300km on the same day as the tragic incident of burning alive of many Hindus but failed to visit any of the riot affected areas where Muslims had been killed by Hindu rioters..
- Narrendra Modi reiterated Newton's third law when Gurjrat was simmering with Communal passions he's reported to have said "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction".
- Narrendra Modi sent two of the Ministers from his council of Ministers to Police Controll rooms where they allegedly directed the police actions.
- Narrendra Modi took no action against local News Papers in Gujrat who were publishing inflammatory articles.
The report finally goes on to say that the SIT committee was unable to find anything which proves that the CM of Gujarat was criminally culpable in facilitating the riots.
As for ministers being in police control rooms, BJP has maintained that well, it is natural for Ministers in a state to go and personally oversee the situation especially when communal riots have broken out on such a scale.
Why The Report Makes No Difference To Narrendra Modi
I was watching the Headlines Today debate the committee's findings yesterday and not shockingly heard some of the pannelists including Shoma Chaudary of Tehelka, Javed Anand and Manu Singhvi from Congress assert that Mr Modi should now step down. Well, this is not the first time that these people and a vast number of others have demanded the same thing, they have been known to ask Mr. Modi step down at least twice a year ever since Narrendra Modi assumed office of the Cheif Minister of Gujrat and they will continue to do so in the future as well but the important question here is that will the all important voter in Gujarat who has the power to make these people's dream come true, make Modi step down?To my mind the possibility of that happening seems impossibly low because well, Mr Narrendra Modi already stands convicted of crimes as heinous in comparison as the genocide of Jews in Hitler's Germany many times over in the eyes of Many in the country especially the Ultras in the secularist camp but that has not stopped him or other members of the BJP winning elections on Gujarat repeatedly.
Yes the SIT report (which has been quite suspiciously leaked) tangentially manages to raise serious questions about the prejudice's of Modi but it does not say anything real new. To say that since
- Modi was the CM of Gujarat at the time of the riots.
- He was biased against Muslims.
- Therefore he's responsible for the death of hundreds of Muslims there.
