Devas rightly threatens to sue the Government

The communications and multimedia media company Devas which entered into a deal for 70 Mhz's of the S-band spectrum has now again threatened that it will take strong, including legal action to protect its deal with ISRO. On a day when Mr. Prime Minister ManMohan Singh has already admitted to making several mistakes in governing this country including giving into its coalition ally's just so the Government can stay in power and then has been severely thrashed both by the BJP's Nitin Gadkari and the Left's Prakash Karrat for a whole range of things, this comes as yet another hard hard blow to which this Government is all hands down and chin up. It would have been K.O if elections were just around the corner but fortunately for UPA, there's time. What is interesting in this one is that Ramachandran Viswanathan the CEO of Devas had about a few weeks ago in an interview with Timesnow's editor in chief Arnab Goswami had said that since they (Devas) had not received any communication from the Government about the termination of the deal, as far as Devas is concerned, the deal was on but when Arnab had asked him about going to court over the deal, he had skipped the question. This time however, the CEO of Devas has taken kiddy gloves of and issued this aggressive threat. What one feels naturally is that this Government is in a bunker one way or another with the ISRO S-band deal just as it is with its 2G deal. The incredible thing really is that because the deal has already been signed and there is no prima facie evidence of any wrong doing on the part of Devas at least, (not yet anyway) they do have a contract which is legally binding and if the Government now chooses to cancel the deal, Devas has every right to take the Government to court over it.

Gujarat and its Controversial leader Narrendra Modi

A populist leader of Gujarat Modi hopes to remake his troubled image an excellent piece in the Economist about Narrendra Modi, his attempts to repair his image and the reason he has to do it, his unabashed trashing by the media in India. As it rightly points out, the richest men in the world like Mukesh Ambani will shower praise on him but the India media and the opposition in Gujarat and the Government in the center will miss no chances to trash his image and brand him as a cold blooded murderer.

Kashmiri Media's Reporting on BJP's Flag Hoisting at Lal Chow

The mood of the people in Kashmir may vary but as is the case elsewhere, the media's grabbed an opportunity to add fuel to the fire with its extremely biased and aggressive reporting. Caught up in his passionate commentary, the anchor in the bellow video actually gets the date wrong as 15th August instead of January 26th.

Its sad to see that the drama and politics over BJP's youth wing's 'Tiranga Yatra' has been so intense in the last few days, Manmohan Singh as is customary, speaking at eleventh hour and reiterating his party's line, while Omar Abdullah going so far as to block and detain top BJP leaders like Sushma Swaraj while they were entering the state; every one of course aware that they all come out shining to their own targeted galleries. The person who benefited the most so far has doubtless been J&K CM Omar Abdullah who by not even allowing some BJP leaders to enter the state has projected himself as the savior of peace to the moderates and as a defender of Kashmiri Azadi to the hard line youth in the state.

It remains to be seen what will happen tomorrow on 26th Jan, India's 63rd Republic Day at Lal Chowk.

Mayawati Still Does Not Free The Minor Dalit Girl Still

If you want to see a good example of why our politicians are complete douche's and unfit to rule our country. Just take at the a look at what is happening in the Banda Dalit Minor's Rape Case, though the 'alleged' rapist, the MLA  Purushottam Das Dwiwedi, has been locked up, (Swearing revenge on the camera while being taken to the jail) the minor who was raped is still locked up. Mean while the Indian Media which did good in this case, has been screaming how the law states that she can't be jailed because she's a juvenile and her crime is minor (petty theft at best) and also that circumstances in this case mean that there is a very very real chance that the charges she faces have been framed and for once, the media seems to be absolutely right. Pic 1 - Purshottam Dwiwedi Swears Vendetta and Pic 2 - The Birthday Girl of tomorrow (15 January) unawares.

Update on the Banda Dalit Rape Case  :

(Same day evening)
Another day has passed and the lumbering panting and now very sickly giant that is our entire system has yet get the girl released. The other update is that the CBI which has been asked to investigate the matter has found that the charges of theft which had been slapped on the girl won't in fact stick. She had a blanket and a mobile phone in her possession when she went to the police.

When a girl has been raped and she's bleeding, she'll obviously grab some warm clothing she can get her hands on, considering it's winter and the temperatures up north dip quite a lot now at night. The mobile phone she had belonged to a family member of the politician, but she never tried to hide the possession of the phone and has reportedly reported  that she had grabbed it to call her family but later forgot about it. No matter what, even if she did take a mobile phone from this politicians house, it does not entitle him to rape her and no police officer can place her under arrest because she's not 18.

Finally, the other thing that has come out of this is how thoroughly incompetent the bodies like CWDR, YWCA of India and Saheli are. All they are capable of paying lip service in such cases where their help is actually required and otherwise harass people in the society needlessly especially men. Harish Salve on the other night said these groups should be instantly shutdown because they don't deserve any aid and authority they're given and I completely agree

Indian Media Does Some Good After All

Indian Media's Intervention Puts MLA and cronies behind bars

The Indian media's picking up and running with story of the UP MLA in Banda who had 'allegedly' raped a girl of 17 and then sticking with the story has finally made some thing happen after all. The MLA after 30 days of the 'alleged' incident has been arrested and put behind bars. As a last ditch effort, the MLA has gone on record and said that he couldn't have raped the girl as he is impotent. LOL

For those not familiar with the story this is what happened:

The 'Alleged' Rape And the Immediate Aftermath

Rape Accused MLA Purushottam Dwiwedi
I can't even get it up he says
The girl a maid of 17 went to work and stay in the accused MLA's house on 8 Dec 2010 and the act which involved the MLA gang-raping her happened on the 11 and 12 December. As soon as she got away she went to the local police and lodged a complaint with the police. Now, here is the really filmy part, the kind that we saw in crappy Bollywood movies throughout the 80's. The police instead of lodging a complaint and sending her for a medical examination while also placing the accused under arrest (as is required in rape cases because of the seriousness of the allegations), consulted with the MLA one Purushottam Dwiwedi who tells them that this girl (name of Sheelu) has fled with stolen items. They take the call, believe the MLA, disbelieve the girl and immediately place her under arrest and then 'allegedly' pressurize her to drop her charges.

The Electronic Indian Media Picks Up The Story And Gives It A Lot Of Air

It's only after a week the incident and the jailing of the girl that the media, luckily for the girl, gets whiff of the story and then starts playing it aggressively. Timesnow one of the better and less biased news channels of India, plays it most aggressively. As is the norm in such cases, the accused party and those connected to it, pray and hope that the story will die down. So after around 5 days, miss Mayawati (CM - UP) finally feels the pulse of the urban populace of the country and is forced to sack the MLA. Another 20 or so days pass and finally she feels the pulse even better and understands that the MLA needs to be arrested and so he has been today.

The most shocking part was how they didn't even administer any medical treatment to the girl who was bleeding from her private parts when she went to the police and of course the whole angle of how she goes to jail after she has in fact been raped. So, while the media as it has proved time and again can be a nuisance, tool of promotion for some agenda, can in fact also, if it wants to, bring justice where there was for no hope for any.
